Última Acanthothecis sarcographoides (Ascomycota: Graphidaceae), a morphologically unique, new lichen species in the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil Acta Botanica Cáceres,Marcela Eugenia da Silva; Lücking,Robert. A new species of Acanthothecis is described in the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil. Unlike any other species in the genus, it has distinctly pseudo-stromatic ascomata that resemble those of the genus Sarcographa. However, its apically spinulose paraphyses, I-negative ascospores with thin endospore closely resemble those of other Acanthothecis species. A previous molecular phylogenetic analysis places the new species close to the type species of Acanthothecis, A. hololeucoides. The discovery of this unique new species underscores the importance of thorough biotic surveys in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, where it is likely that many more unknown lichen species await discovery. The present study tested the hypothesis that species richness and composition of epiphytic microlichens can be used to support the phytosociological differentiation between Caatinga and Brejos de Altitude, as exemplified by the Muralha Reserve (Caatinga) and the Parque Estadual Mata do Pau Ferro (Brejo de Altitude), in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. A total of 755 lichen samples were collected, comprising 18 families, 42 genera and 111 species of epiphytic, corticolous microlichens. Overall species richness was higher in the Caatinga, with 67 species, compared to the Brejo, with 46 species. Abstract In the frame of an ongoing lichen inventory of Atlantic Rainforest remnants in Northeast Brazil, five new species of Graphidaceae were discovered in a small forest fragment, Mata do Cipó, in Sergipe state, the smallest state of Brazil and among those with the highest deforestation rate in the country. An additional new species had already been collected in Panama before and was now also found in the Mata do Cipó and is described here as well. The new species Gyalectidium aurelii is described from leaves of Meliaceae collected in Chapada dos Guimarães, in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new taxon is characterized by very broad, marginal hyphophores with scales that project horizontally from the leaf margin and are closely appressed to the substrate. G. aurelii is distinguished from similar species, such as G. fantasticum and G. paolae, by its hyphophores being incurved (following the thallus outline) and having an entire margin, and further by its irregularly verrucose rather than areolate thallus. Foram revisadas as coleções de liquens foliícolas realizadas pelo micologista Augusto Chaves Batista e seus colaboradores no Estado de Pernambuco. O estudo foi desenvolvido em três partes: (1) compilação e revisão nomenclatural dos nomes aplicados por Batista et al.; (2) revisão taxonômica dos espécimes determinados por Batista et al.; (3) identificação dos espécimes também presentes nas coleções, porém não registrados por Batista et al. As coleções estudadas compreendem 474 exsicatas com 1.130 espécimes identificados por Batista e seu grupo, nas quais esses autores aplicaram 55 nomes genéricos e 159 nomes específicos.
